Pamella Reid: A Campaign Focused on Community and Equity
Pamella Reid is running for local office with a platform centered on addressing community disparities and supporting vulnerable populations. Her key concerns include rising living costs and unequal support for local businesses and residents.
Rising Cost and Community Challenges
Reid highlights the significant financial burdens facing residents, particularly seniors. Pamella Shared how her Water bill in Miramar have dramatically increased from $123 to $178, creating additional strain for those on fixed incomes. “Now, how can the seniors who are on a fixed income pay those kinds of water bills?” she asks, also raising concerns about flood insurance costs.
Supporting Small Businesses and Local Entrepreneurs
A passionate advocate for small businesses, Reid shared the story of Joan, a barbershop owner who has operated her business for 40 years but hasn’t received revitalization grants. “She’s not getting any revitalization grants,” Reid points out. She criticizes the unequal support, arguing that “there’s a disparity between who they like and who they don’t like, and that’s not fair.”
Mental Health and Youth Support
Central to Reid’s platform is a commitment to mental health, particularly for youth. “If we don’t help our babies, we’re going to be screwed, all of us in this room,” she emphasizes. She believes that supporting young people is crucial to the community’s future.
Campaign Strategy: Personal Connections
Reid’s campaign approach prioritizes grassroots engagement. “I’m looking for volunteers that will walk the streets with me, that will hand out flyers,” she explains. Recognizing the challenges of evening campaigning, she plans to expand her weekend canvassing efforts, noting, “I’ve been doing the weekdays, but it gets dark now. So I don’t want to show up at people’s houses and they got a big old dog.”
Community Involvement and Fundraising
The campaign is looking for donations to support marketing efforts. “Marketing is not cheap,” Reid acknowledges. She is organizing gatherings and events, believing that personal interactions are more powerful than expensive advertising. “I think it’s more important when you look people in the eye,” she says, “you say, this is what I stand for and I’m looking you in the eye.”
Her message is clear: She is “for the people,” committed to addressing community inequities, and seeking genuine, personal connections with voters. As she puts it, “Who’s Pamella Reid?” – and she’s determined to make sure everyone knows.
